PITTSBURGH, Pa. — A $1 million bond will be used to clean up the site, which holds 1 million gallons of shale gas drilling wastewater.

PITTSBURGH, Pa. — A gas drilling wastewater treatment facility near a former rodeo arena in Indiana County, Pa. was shut down by state environmental regulators, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

The site was the source of several spills and at least four violation orders, noted the article.

A permit issued to Aquatic synthesis Unlimited has been revoked by the state Department of Environmental Protection.

A $1 million bond will be used to clean up the site, which holds 1 million gallons of shale gas drilling wastewater and at least 5 tons of contaminated soil, stated the article.

"We don't know yet if the bond will be enough to do the work," said John Poister, a DEP spokesman. "The cleanup plan will be submitted soon and if the bond isn't enough, DEP will go after the responsible parties to pay the difference."
