TREVOSE, Pa. — The challenge, “GE Innovation Challenge: Innovative Central Tube Connections,” was to create a new design for a central tube connector for GE’s spiral wound reverse osmosis (RO) membranes.

TREVOSE, Pa. — GE announced the five winners of its latest innovation challenge, “GE Innovation Challenge: Innovative Central Tube Connections,” according to a press release.

The challenge was to create a new design for a central tube connector for GE’s spiral wound reverse osmosis (RO) membranes, stated the release.

GE was looking for a “unique and original means of connection” that reduced costs, improved efficiency and eliminated components, while also accelerating the manufacturing process, continued the release.

Participants were asked to create 3D design ideas to simplify the spiral wound RO membrane assemblies in press-driven, spiral wound water filtration systems, by “identifying a novel means of connecting the component tubing,” reported the release.

Winners of GE’s challenge include: Tom Goddu of Blazing Pencils LLC, Paul Santarsiero of Siero Design, Sandy Richardson of Design Edge, Jan Bullemo of TNO and Tom Henninger, Ph.D., P.E., of the College of Engineering at the University of Kentucky, noted the release.
