The International Society of Automation will host a new event, ISA Automation Week: Technology and Solutions, October 4-7 at the Westin Galleria Complex in Houston, TX.
The event will feature intensive educational and applications-based technical conference sessions delivered by subject matter experts. Discrete and process automation professionals will have a chance to learn techniques and solutions for creating more efficient, productive, and economical manufacturing processes. ISA training courses and standards meetings will also be held concurrently.
The conference program will focus on the latest industry developments and standards in key manufacturing disciplines like automation, energy and power, green manufacturing, instrumentation and process control, safety and security, systems and enterprise integration, and wireless, networking, and industrial communications. Conference sessions will include both theory-based and applications-based presentations to appeal to a wide variety of automation and control professionals.
Inventor Dean Kamen, widely recognized as the inventor of the Segway™ Human Transporter, will deliver the opening keynote address at ISA Automation Week 2010 on Tuesday, Oct. 5. Kamen's speech will focus on the organization he founded in 1989, FIRST® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology). FIRST is dedicated to motivating the next generation to understand, use, and enjoy science and technology.
In 2010, its flagship program, the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC), reached more than 45,000 high-school students on more than 1,800 teams in 43 regional competitions, seven district competitions, and one national championship. The FIRST Robotics Competition teams professionals and young people from around the world to solve an engineering design problem in an intense and competitive way.
A wide variety of educational sessions are planned during the event. As an example, the Energy Track will explore the Smart Grid, alternative energies, and plant retrofits; and bring to light those technologies and techniques which can make or break the profit line. Presenters of the Energy Track sessions include experts from Siemens Energy, Inc., CyboSoft, 3e Technologies International, Emerson Process Management, Schneider Electric, and others.
A Wireless and Networking Track will cover wireless and the infrastructure, fieldbus implementation, the Ethernet, fiber optic solutions, and radio and other data communication types. Presenters of the Wireless and Networking Track sessions include experts from Fieldbus Foundation, Bechtel, Exxon/Mobil, Hart Communication Foundation, and other companies.
An Automation & Control Track offers in-depth sessions focused on everything from the basics of temperature, pressure, level, and flow to supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) and distributed control systems. IWW

Flow metersAttendees at ISA Automation Week will be offered hands-on demonstrations of McCrometer's differential pressure (dP) V-Cone and Wafer-Cone flow meters. The company will also offer free flow meter application evaluations. The space-saving V-Cone® meter and scalable Wafer-Cone® both feature McCrometer's dP technology with built-in flow conditioning. The compact flow meters require straight pipe runs of only 0-3 upstream and 0-1 downstream for accurate measurement. The V-Cone's self-conditioning design provides a stable flow profile and features accuracy of ±0.5% of actual flow and repeatability of ±0.1% over the entire range. It is ideal for the measurement of liquid, steam or gas. McCrometer, www.mccrometer.com, 800-220-2279
Electrical panel coolersNoren Products manufactures air-to-air and air-to-water heat exchangers for cooling sealed electrical panels without letting contaminants inside (including wash down, and hazardous locations). Their compact cabinet coolers help prevent failures and downtime caused by overheating electronics. Noren units are easy to install, are low maintenance, Freon free and cost a fraction of air-conditioning. They are available in NEMA 12, 4, 4x, Stainless Steel, UL Listed, cUL, & CE.
