Measuring pH, Silcore TUpH sensors from Emerson Process feature a triple-seal contaminant barrier that prevents moisture and material impurities from migrating to the pH electrode's metal lead wire. This barrier helps prevent compromise of the pH measurement and significantly increases sensor life, particularly at high temperatures where increased contaminant migrations occur. A patented secondary helical reference pathway hinders reference poisoning thereby increasing sensor life.

Sludge dewatering

Alfa Laval has launched the Octopus, a new continuous, intelligent monitoring and optimization system for sludge dewatering decanters. The system allows plant operators to operate at maximum efficiency resulting in significantly lower costs in polymer consumption and sludge disposal costs. The system's sensors collect data from the processes and the decanter. This data is continuously fed to a computer where the software determines control settings to minimize operating costs and enhance efficiency. The algorithms developed by Alfa Laval and integrated into the software control the process with the overall objective of finding the lowest possible cost of operation taking into account all relevant parameters: polymer cost, transportation and disposal costs for the dewatered sludge as well as water and power consumption.

Flow Sensor

Veris offers the Verabar® insertion flow sensor. Multiple points along the velocity profile are measured and averaged by a single sensor. As a result, the sensors have far less stringent straight-run demands than other types of insertion flow meters. The meters can be used in a wide range of applications — gases, liquids and steam — in pipe or duct sizes ranging from 2'' to 22 feet in diameter. With its low pressure sensing ports located on the sides of the sensor, the meter is not likely to plug in particulate-laden applications. Accuracy (+1%) and repeatability (.1%) is documented and verified by independent NIST traceable flow laboratories.

UV monitoring

The UV Transmittance Monitor from Aquionics provides an extra level of process validation. This control option ensures that UV water treatment systems deliver an optimum dose of UV light even when feed water quality fluctuates. Changes in feed water UV transmittance can affect UV dose and reduce the effectiveness of the disinfection process. To eliminate this process variable, the system continuously measures water transmittance, enabling the control unit to increase or decrease the intensity of UV emitted by lamps in the disinfection chambers in response to changes in water quality.
