Flowserve Corp. has launched a new severe service control valve, the Multi-Z. The valve is designed specifically to handle high-pressure- drop applications where entrained solids are a problem, and is ideal for system start-up and boiler-feed water recirculation. The only valve certified and tested by a boiler feed-pump manufacturer, the Multi-Z features a multistage trim design that eliminates cavitation and provides extended trim life. The addition of a unique venturi outlet nozzle provides further trim and seat protection from high velocity, cavitation and flashing.

EDI systems

Ionics offers Electrodeionization (EDI) technology, which provides high capacity boiler feed water, making it an ideal solution for power applications. EDI is a continuous process for producing high-purity water using ion-exchange membranes, resins and electricity. Direct current (DC) is the driving force for removing ionized and ionizable species from the feed stream, while continuously regenerating the resin pack. EDI, in combination with reverse osmosis as pretreatment, strips away more than 99.9% of feedwater ions, significantly outperforming both double-pass RO and straight deionization (DI).

Scale control

Scale Free International has introduced the patented "Scale Defender" and "Tower Defender" systems. The products eliminate the need for chemicals in boilers, cooling towers, chillers and heat exchangers. Patented microprocessor controls alter the positive nature of process water to a negative or neutral state eliminating scale formation and addressing microbial concerns without the use of magnets.

Liqui-Cel® Membrane Contactors, manufactured by Membrana, have been used for 10+ years for removing gases from liquids. O2 removal to 1 ppb and CO2 removal to 1 ppm in the semiconductor, power, pharmaceutical, medical/analytical, beverage, photographic and other industries are common applications. Designed to tolerate high pressures and temperatures, the contactors process flow rates from < 10 ml/min to hundreds of M3/hr. The contactors maximize contact area and fluid dynamics for the highest-possible efficiency.

The X-ID® Firetube Economizer, available from Kentube, a lightweight heat recovery system specifically for smaller firetube boiler applications. The system features internally ribbed tubing which improves efficiency. Because the flue gases stay inside the tubes, the system can handle boiler load changes and eliminates the need for expensive flue gas bypasses. And because of its cylindrical design, it adapts to the boiler opening or stack, thus eliminating costly transitions.
