A heavy duty submersible pump designed to handle various types of slurries has been introduced by ITT Flygt. Designated as the 5150, the pump is ideal for use in power plants for bottom ash, refineries for petroleum coke, steel manufacturing and most any other application where solid granules are present, which can rapidly erode pump volutes, impellers and other wear parts. The slurry pump incorporates a design that not only lowers operating and maintenance costs, but reduces initial investment costs as well. To improve performance, the number of parts in the pump were greatly reduced and the design radically simplified.

Elbow flow conditioners

Vorel 90-Degree Elbow Flow Conditioners from the Vortab Co. increase pump performance and reduce pump maintenance by eliminating cavitation and improving flow profiles leading into pumps, which reduces pump repair costs and extends pump life. No added space is taken up in installation as the conditioners replace the last remaining upstream elbow in the line. The conditioned flow stream enters the pump in a uniform and equally distributed pattern that results in increased pump bearing life with decreased noise and cavitation and improved pump performance.

A new hydraulic driven submersible pump from Godwin Pumps, the Heidra® 150VSG, handles thick, solids laden liquids with solids up to 5'' in diameter. A remote actuated "slurry gate" enables the pump to be used as a mixer in applications where sludges are so thick they are initially unpumpable. After mixing to a pumpable consistency, the gate can be closed and the sludge pumped away. Uses include industrial wastewater treatment plant sludge tank cleaning and emptying. For durability, the Heidra 150VSG is designed with a cast iron pumpend and a cast chromium steel vortex impeller.

The Alldos "Plus3 System" is the highlight of the Primus 208 pump range. This metering pump is especially designed for dosing very small volumes of chemicals that easily evaporate during pumping, like sodium hypochlorite. The pump "pre-vents" the gas and thus prevents likelihood of gas build up in the pumping chamber. An easy-to-handle calibrating system is integrated in the liquid end for exact adjustment of very low-flow ranges.
