Process leaks into heat exchange cooling water produce fugitive hydrocarbon emissions that can be emitted to the atmosphere as the water circulates to the cooling tower. FCI Environmental introduced its PetroSense® CMS-4000 Continuous Monitoring System that provides real-time monitoring of hydrocarbons from process leaks into cooling tower water. The system uses patented Fiber Optic Chemical Sensor (FOCS®) technology.

Backflow test cocks
Ames has announced a new generation Series SAE-TC backflow preventer test cocks for 1/2, 3/4 and one in. sized backflow preventers. The test cocks are USC approved and provide a male connection, eliminating the need for adapters when testing. This feature saves the backflow device tester time and money.

Hot Box® has released its new fiberglass Glasspad for mounting backflow preventer enclosures. These prefabricated mounting pads are sized specifically for valve enclosures, to eliminate the need for jobsite poured concrete slabs. The pads allow for "one trip" installation of the valve, the pad and the enclosures, with no need to return after the concrete dries.
Water treatment additive
A new, industrial water treatment additive controls scale and deposits in stressed cooling water conditions with high pH and high calcite saturation. Versaflex® One additive stabilizes calcium phosphate, iron and zinc while tolerating high levels of contaminants such as elevated total dissolved solids, suspended solids and soluble iron. It is stable in the presence of halogens, even during hyper-halogenation.
