Beginning Jan. 23, U.S. public and private water agencies had to meet tough new EPA standards drastically reducing arsenic levels allowed in drinking water from 50 ppb to 10 ppb. But millions of private well owners aren’t covered. Private wells fall beneath the regulatory radar. A new information guide from the American Ground Water Trust helps those owners not protected by the new arsenic standards. The 24-page “Arsenic and Ground Water: Questions, Answers and Solutions” explains geologic origins of arsenic, its occurrence in groundwater, arsenic related health issues and methods to remove or reduce arsenic levels. American Ground Water Trust, Concord, NH, 603-228-5444, www.agwt.org.
