Looks as if the Water Pavilion at Power-Gen International is no more.
At first segregated into a smaller hall off of the upper hall in Las Vegas’ Sands Expo Center along with the PennEnergyJobs Career Fair Pavilion and USDOC Global Business Center, the location prompted a number of water and wastewater exhibitors to request a move to the main show floor prior to the December event. The dozen or so remaining suffered through stoically and were rewarded with incentives to exhibit next year.
Those there still noted business in the outside world was good.
Hach recently introduced a new capability for its phosphate analyzers to reduce corrosion, noted industrial sales development manager Carol Pullen. “Previously, we had a congruent phosphate treatment program. Now, with a phosphate continuum program, they can check phosphate and maintain pH separately.” It had copies of a case study available on use of its 8362c ultrapure water pH and ORP technology at MidAmerican Energy Co. facilities in Sioux City, Iowa, which also was featured in an article in our November/December issue.
Alan Daza, vice president of sales and marketing for Degremont’s Anderson Water Systems, said one of its latest projects is an 800 MW combined cycle plant in Becancour, Quebec. “We’re providing our state-of-the-art Densadeg™ high-rate clarifier as pretreatment to a multimedia RO, mixed bed for process water.”
Zenon Environmental touted its ABMet metals removal system, which it acquired along with Applied Biosciences last year. “It offers biological treatment for metals removal related to FGD wastewater to take selenium, arsenic and mercury - as well as other metals - down,” said Craig Lockhart, the company’s eastern regional sales manager for industrial systems.
ProMinent Fluid Controls highlighted its ProMus Series of hydraulically actuated chemical process pumps, which offer high pressure process metering for flow rates up to 101 gph and pressures up to 3,500 psi. Slimline Manufacturing Ltd. displayed its Turbo-mist Evaporator unit, which helps maintain freeboard and eliminates waste for reclamation and wastewater reduction.
Others pavilion exhibitors included Air Liquide-Balazs Analytical, Amiad Filtration Systems, AquaTech International, Brackett Green USA Inc., ChemTreat, Eco-Tec, Hellan Strainers & Filtration Products, LAKOS Separators & Filtration Systems, LaMotte, Puretec, Screening Systems International (SSI), Synagro, and WesTech.
Outside the Water Pavilion, traffic was brisk as the event came just shy of breaking its attendance record of 18,000-plus. Chemtrac located just outside the pavilion on one side and Godwin Pumps on the other, were among those reporting excellent contacts. That’s something 2006 Power-Gen exhibitors can look forward to as water and wastewater exhibitors will be integrated throughout the tradeshow floor. There will be no separate pavilion.
Our next roadtrips include DistribuTECH, PittCon, NACExpo and WQA AquaTech, where we’ll be exhibiting as well. We include a special product section for PittCon, March 12-17 in Orlando, in this issue.
On another note, I’d like to point out that the EPA has been busy promulgating several changes or proposed changes to water, wastewater and stormwater rules that affect industrial facilities. See the following headlines at our website for more detail:
• Proposed wet weather policy to improve wastewater treatment
• Comments sought on CAFO compliance extensions
• ‘Water bubble’ rule changed for iron, steel plant effluent limits
• Comments sought on proposed multi-sector permits
• Study pans idea to ease toxic waste reporting
• Changes to industrial stormwater discharge rules proposed
