OKLAHOMA CITY — Citing a growing population and lingering drought, city officials noted the most critical issue for 2013 may be securing access to an important source of drinking water, noted a recent article from newsok.com.
According to the city’s officials, a resolution to a water rights lawsuit filed against the city and state in 2011 is close, stated the article.
In 2011, two local tribes sued the city, state and other entities in 2011 over water rights, added the article.
City Manager Jim Couch said the latest round of mediation leaves him with an optimistic outlook.
“I’m a lot more (optimistic) than I was a few months ago,” Couch said. “Hopefully we can come up with a settlement that will meet everybody’s needs.”
