WQA annual conference focuses on legislative outreach and professional development

LISLE, Ill. — Over one hundred WQA members met in Lake Tahoe for the 2013 Mid-Year Leadership Conference in early September.

LISLE, Ill. — One hundred thirty-three leaders from the Water Quality Association (WQA) met near Lake Tahoe on Sept. 3-5 for their 2013 Mid-Year Leadership Conference, according to a WQA press release.

Establishing strategic priorities and defining the WQA mission and vision were two initiatives of the conference, according to the release.

Specifically, the release continued, two new task forces created by the WQA Board of Governors met at the conference: The International Advisory Task Force and The Emerging Technologies Task Force.

The Market Development Committee presented the initial results of WQA’s Member Satisfaction Survey showing that membership in North American has risen while international membership has decreased, member professional development and continuing education opportunities were discussed and the development of a professional education program for portable ion exchange softener service plants was initiated, according to the press release.

Other announcements included the creation of a new task force to redesign the WQA website, Water Quality Research Foundation (WQRF)’s plans for a Final Barrier Study and plans for an increase in legislative outreach on third-party certification for industry products in California, discharge issues in a number of states, specialty licensing requirements in Maine and Wisconsin and the Final Barrier Initiative across the country.
