Four AGWT scholarship recipients announced

CONCORD, N.H. — The awards go to first-year college students committed to water sustainability.

CONCORD, N.H.  — Award recipients for the 2013 American Ground Water Trust (AGWT) Scholarship Program, which awards scholarships ranging from $1,500 to $2,000 to four first-year college students, have been announced, according to a press release.

Finalists for the scholarships, which are sponsored by AMTROL, Inc., Baroid Industrial Drilling Products and Stetson Engineers Inc., are students from across the U.S. who have demonstrated interest in managing, protecting and utilizing water resources for sustainability, the release reported.

Lindsey Jones of Short Hills, N.J. will be a first year student at McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science at Northwestern University next year and has volunteered repairing oyster reefs and upgrading aquatic habitats; she was awarded an AMTROL award, the release reported.

Jessica Murray of Carlisle, Pa. was awarded an AMTROL scholarship as well according to the release; she has done original research on water quality and the habitats of Rainbow Trout and will be attending Juanita College for Environmental Science and Chemistry in the fall.

Mary Jaskowiak of Sleepy Hollow, Ill., who will attend the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, received the Baroid IDP Scholarship for her work leading a team of students in restoring a wetlands area near her school, according to the release.

The Thomas Stetson Scholarship was awarded to Mason Oxford of Hotchkiss, Colo., who monitored the water quality of a local river and worked on mine reclamation projects during his summer vacations, and will attend Montana State University in the fall to pursue Civil Engineering, the release reported.
