Los Angeles mayor urges businesses to reduce wastewater output

LOS ANGELES — The city offers a rebate for wastewater output reduction, which the Anheuser-Busch plant there has received.

LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti urged local businesses to take advantage of rebates the city gives for reducing wastewater output after touring the Anheuser-Busch plant in Van Nuys this week, according to an article from the Los Angeles Daily News.

Anheuser-Busch has reduced its wastewater output by two million gallons over the past 15 years by buying new equipment and installing water-saving devices like low-flow toilets, the article reported.

Although Los Angeles charges commercial businesses fees based on their projected wastewater output, if the company discharges less than the anticipated amount, they can receive a rebate, noted the article.

Anheuser-Busch received a $2.3 million rebate from the city for their wastewater output reduction, according to the article.

“It’s a win for the brewery because it helps us financially, but also that (water) capacity that we don’t use, it goes back to the city,” said Luis Cayo, senior manager at Anheuser-Busch Los Angeles.
