Hendrik M. Haitjema named editor-in-chief of Groundwater

WESTERVILLE, Ohio — Hendrik M. Haitjema, Ph.D., has been named the editor-in-chief of Groundwater®, a technical publication for hydrogeologists produced by the National Ground Water Association (NGWA), according to a press release.

Haitjema, the seventh editor-in-chief of the publication in its 52 years, takes over for Franklin W. Schwartz, Ph.D., the release noted.

Haitjema served as a professor at the School of Public and Environmental Affairs until August 2012 and is a professor emeritus from Indian University, reported the release, having taught groundwater flow modeling and applied mathematics among other subjects.

"I am honored to serve as the next editor-in-chief of Groundwater and hope to uphold and indeed further promote the excellent reputation of this journal," Haitjema said.

According to the release, Haitjema has a specialization in groundwater hydrology and his research interests include the development and application of mathematical models for regional groundwater flow systems, three-dimensional groundwater flow embedded in two-dimensional flow models (Dupuit-Forchheimer models), freshwater and saltwater interface flow, transit time distributions in watersheds and the conjunctive modeling of surface water and groundwater flow.
