Water Technology talks with Todd Williams of CH2M HILL

LATHAM, N.Y. — Williams discusses resource recovery and anaerobic digestion in our most recent podcast.

LATHAM, N.Y. — Todd Williams, deputy leader for wastewater infrastructure practice including residuals resource recovery and biosolids management at CH2M HILL, has worked for 34 years in the environmental engineering field with specific emphasis on residuals and biosolids management.

Williams has made numerous presentations and is a contributing author for several articles and books significant to biosolids and residuals management, composting and odor control including the recently published WEF/WERF/EPA Solids Process Design and Management Manual.

Water Technology caught up with Williams soon after he gave a presentation on "Resource Recovery Opportunities at America's Water Resource Recovery Facilities" at the 2013 American Water Summit in November, to discuss resource recovery and the benefits of anaerobic digestion.

"There are a lot more water resource recovery facilities that don't have digestion as compared to those that do, like about three times as many," said Williams. "And of those water resource recovery facilities that have anaerobic digestion, there are about three times as many that do not generate power or drive plant equipment as those that do. And so there's quite an opportunity to capture the energy that's available in biosolids through digestion and through biogas use in power generation and driving plant equipment."
