FLORIANA, Malta — The Malta Business Bureau (MBB) has announced that businesses and hotels collaborating with the EU LIFE+ Investing in Water Project are saving 118,000,000 liters of water every year, according to an article by The Malta Independent.
Businesses and hotels have upgraded facilities over the past year to achieve this savings, reported the release, including installation of a sewage treatment plant at the Seabank Hotel, installation of a process waste-water recycling plant by Trelleborg Sealing Solutions Malta and rainwater harvesting by BOV.
MBB Project Manager Geoffrey Saliba said, “Constant innovations and decrease in cost of technology are allowing industry to become more efficient and effective in its water consumption. A considerable body of knowledge has been built by industry leaders on which technology works best in which circumstances — sharing this knowledge base widely is allowing industry to reduce its consumption significantly.”
According to the article, the amount of water being saved is enough to meet the water needs of two medium sized four star hotels and a large factory.
The MBB EU LIFE+ Investing in Water Project, continued the release, audited systems, identified water saving potential and made recommendations on efficiency and best practices.
