KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The new law funds projects for flood control, water navigation, storm damage reduction, beach nourishment, water supply, and dam and levee safety.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — American Public Works Association (APWA) President Edward A. Gottko, PWLF, commended President Obama for signing into law the Water Resources Reform and Development Act (WRRDA), according to a press release.

The new law funds needed projects for flood control, water navigation, storm damage reduction, beach nourishment, ecological restoration, water supply, and dam and levee safety.

“The American Public Works Association (APWA) applauds President Obama for signing into law vital legislation that restores the federal commitment to rebuild our nation’s aging water resources infrastructure,” said Gottko. “The Water Resources Reform and Development Act will improve the quality of life in our communities with job-generating projects that provide flood protection and environmental restoration, and improve our waterway infrastructure.”

APWA is an organization of 28,500 members dedicated to providing public works infrastructure and services to millions of people in rural and urban communities, both small and large, stated the release.

“WRRDA’s reforms will shorten the time it takes to complete projects, save taxpayers money and ensure that environmental quality is not diminished,” said Gottko.

The Senate approved WRRDA by a vote 91-7, and the House of Representatives approved the measure with a vote of 412-4.
