Proposal of pilot study to help address environmental issues associated with Passaic River sediments

NEWARK, N.J. —In-Situ Sediment Bioremediation technology has the potential for changing the current paradigm of environmental remedy selections nationwide.

NEWARK, N.J. — A large field scale pilot study has been proposed to demonstrate a revolutionary and potentially transformative technology to address environmental issues associated with Passaic River sediments, according to a press release.

This technology, In-Situ Sediment Bioremediation, has the potential for changing the current paradigm of environmental remedy selections nationwide, stated the release.

The pilot study would be performed under the direction of its principal architect, John Pardue, PhD, P.E., a nationally recognized bioremediation expert and Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Louisiana State University. The pilot study will be sponsored by Maxus Energy Corporation and Tierra Solutions Inc.

The primary goal of the pilot study will be to demonstrate for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) the possibilities of a 21st Century clean-technology as a viable alternative to the dredging and capping technology presented in EPA’s recently issued Proposed Remedy for the Lower 8 Miles of the Passaic River, noted the release.

Maxus and Tierra have launched www.in-ecobioremediation.com, a website dedicated to educating the general public on the advantages of In-Situ Sediment Bioremediation and information regarding the pilot study. 

The pilot study is expected to be a major project that will help create local jobs, training and educational opportunities.
