COLUMBUS, Neb. — Tests are being conducted by the Columbus Public Works Department to determine whether or not sewer water can be effectively used to irrigate the city’s grass, according to the Columbus Telegram.
The city-initiated project uses effluent water to irrigate a portion of the yard at the city’s wastewater treatment plant.
The city is hoping that these tests prove to be effective so they can eventually reuse wastewater from sinks, showers and toilets to water the greens and fairways at the Quail Run Golf Course, noted the article.
Marty Eaton, the city’s wastewater treatment plant supervisor, said the project was initiated to keep grass green through the hot, dry summer months.
