AWRA announces 2014 Richard A. Herbert Memorial Scholarship Fund recipients

MIDDLEBURG, Va. — The American Water Resources Association (AWRA) awards six students a total of $7,500 in scholarships.

MIDDLEBURG, Va. — Six students received the American Water Resources Association’s (AWRA) 2014 Richard A. Herbert Memorial Scholarship Fund for a total of $7,500 in scholarships, according to a press release.

Considered by AWRA and their members as one of their greatest accomplishments, The Richard A. Herbert Memorial Scholarship Fund has helped over 40 students continue with their studies in water resources management, stated the release.

Some of this year’s winners include: Natalie Nelson — Ph.D. student in Agricultural and Biological Engineering Department at the University of Florida, Emma Mendelsohn — M.S. student studying sustainable water quality management at the Nicholas School of the Environment at Duke University, and Peter Bauson — undergraduate majoring in Environmental Studies and Biology at Manchester University, continued the release.

“Many of our reviewers commented on how difficult it was to rank the applicants based on the high quality of academics, research and experience,” said Martha Narvaez, chair of the selection committee. “If this pool of applicants is any indication, the field of water resources will benefit greatly from the next generation of water resource professionals.”
