LONDON — The Environment Agency has awarded CH2M HILL the contract for the Thames Estuary Asset Management program, according to a press release.
The tidal flood defense program, developed by the Environment Agency, is valued at approximately $469.6 million (£300 million) and represents the first 10 years of the 100-year program, with a goal of protecting London and the Thames Estuary from current and future tidal flooding through 2100, stated the release.
Operating under the name Thames Estuary Asset Management 2100 (TEAM 2100), the program is one of the U.K. government‘s top 40 national infrastructure projects and will also be one of the world’s largest flood-risk management programs, once underway, continued the release.
The release reported that the contract awarded to CH2M HILL involves the planning, programming, optimization and delivery of design, investigation, refurbishment, capital maintenance and replacement works on the existing tidal flood defense assets along the estuary.
CH2M HILL will work alongside its delivery partner, Balfour Beatty, as well as with specialist suppliers including Hunton Engineering Ltd., Critigen, Qualter Hall and KGAL, and an integrated delivery team will be formed with the Environment Agency to deliver substantial efficiencies during the 10-year program, noted the release.
