WESTERVILLE, Ohio — The National Ground Water Association (NGWA) awarded Dr. Paul Barlow of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in Northborough, Massachusetts, and Stanley Leake of the USGS in Tucson, Arizona, the John Hem Award for Excellence in Science & Engineering, according to a press release.
The NGWA John Hem Award honors substantial scientific or engineering contributions to the understanding of groundwater, stated the release.
Barlow and Leake collectively have more than 60 years of experience in the investigation of groundwater/surface water exchange and numerical simulation, and they received the award for their contributions to the understanding of groundwater, reported the release.
They have used their experience and research, as well as the work of others, to produce a new report, “Streamflow Depletion by Wells — Understanding and Managing the Effects of Groundwater Pumping on Streamflow,” noted the release.
