ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The International Bottled Water Association (IBWA) is encouraging consumers to take action during National Hurricane Preparedness Week (May 24-30), which coincides with the start of the hurricane season, according to a press release.
“This week is an ideal time for people to take a moment to reassess their risks and update hurricane kits and emergency plans,” said IBWA Vice President of Communications Chris Hogan. “Continued volatility in weather across the nation only reinforces the importance of always being prepared for unexpected and dangerous weather.”
IBWA reports that in times of natural disasters or emergencies, bottled water is available, stated the release.
“Being prepared in advance of a threat means stocking up on emergency supplies, such as nonperishable food, drinking water, batteries, etc., in sufficient quantities to last at least 72 hours,” reports Hogan. “In fact, FEMA advises that the safest, most reliable emergency drinking water is commercially purchased bottled water and recommends at least one gallon per person per day for at least three days.”
In cases when tap water is disrupted, such as a power outage or a pipe breach during a hurricane, bottled water can provide a safe source of drinking water, continued the release, and storing bottled water is a safe and convenient way to ensure an adequate supply of water is on hand.
