MADRID — Through a new contract, FCC Aqualia will manage Mecca, Saudi Arabia’s two largest wastewater treatment plants for three years, according to a press release.
FCC Aqualia will work with the local Alkhorayef Water and Power Company to operate and maintain the plants, located in Hadda and Arana, stated the release. The facilities treat an average of approximately 250,000 m3, with the potential to treat 375,000 m3.
The contract is the business’ third in Saudi Arabia since 2011, noted the release. It represents a business portfolio of €20 million.
“The consortium between both companies will be jointly responsible for: the operation and maintenance of treatment facilities and units, including workshops, laboratories, electrical installations, service road status, security systems, supply, sanitation and drainage projects within the facilities, environmental maintenance of the facilities, laboratory team and conducting analyses,” reported the release.
The project fits within the country’s goals to modernize its water cycle management, shared the release. National Water Company, the state’s water company, aims to improve operations and performance with international companies that specialize and operation and maintenance.
FCC Aqualia is part of Citizen Services Group, noted the release. It serves 23.5 million users worldwide.
