Florida city chooses ion exchange to treat water

The town’s lime softening plant was shut down several years ago, leaving residents without soft water.

BUNNELL, Fla. — Sept. 14, 2015 — Ixom Watercare Inc. provided its ion exchange technology to the city of Bunnell to simultaneously soften and remove organics from the water, according to a press release.

The town’s lime softening plant was shut down several years ago, leaving residents without soft water, noted the release. Softening water and removing organics is a common problem for groundwater in the state.

Florida uses Ixom technology so communities stay in compliance with Stage 2 Disinfection By-Products Regulations, stated the release. Until now, the state has used a two-step process with lime or membranes to product soft water.

Ixom developed a one-step process using its MIEX® Plus resin that saves on capital and operational costs, reported the release. The city chose Ixom’s MICo® SOF Ion Exchange Technology in 2014.
