Veolia’s technology chosen to recover lithium
Veolia Water Technologies will supply its proprietary HPD Evaporation and Crystallization technology to recover lithium from a mining waste stream. North American Lithium Inc. is planning to restart its hydromet mining operation in La Corne, Quebec, Canada, for the production of lithium carbonate (Li2CO3). Lithium carbonate is one of the main materials needed to produce lithium ion batteries for electric vehicles, computers and mobile phones. North American Lithium selected Veolia Water Technologies for the installation of the Sodium Sulfate Crystallization Circuit. The primary objective is increased recovery of lithium while producing a sodium sulfate (Na2SO4) byproduct. The project will benefit from recovering two products from a waste stream, thereby reducing environmental impact and making the project a commercially viable source of valuable lithium carbonate.
Novozymes partners with Grundfos for clean water
Novozymes, a global leader in enzymes and microorganisms, and Grundfos, a global leader in advanced pump technologies, entered an open innovation collaboration to find new solutions to the world’s water challenges. The partnership takes place on HelloScience.io, an online universe launched by Novozymes in September 2017 where entrepreneurs, startups and others can connect with industry. Four specific challenges will be posted online, allowing all in the HelloScience community to pitch their ideas on how to secure clean water for more people and receive sparring, input and assistance from both Novozymes and Grundfos. The two companies seek solutions to remove polluting chemicals from water and improve cleaning of wastewater. That includes better filtering, less sludge and recovery of phosphate, a precious nutrient, from wastewater.
Severn Trent – North America changes name to Inframark
Severn Trent – North America has changed its name to Inframark. The name change, which comes following a separation from former U.K. parent Severn Trent Plc. in early 2016, reflects the company’s commitment to create deeper client partnerships as a leader in the water and infrastructure services space. As part of the name change, Inframark is launching a new brand identity, corporate website and supporting materials that more effectively communicate the depth of its offering, its refined service model and the strength of its culture as a standalone American company. Under the Inframark name, the company will organize into two broad business lines. The Water Infrastructure Operations group delivers critical water and wastewater operations and maintenance services to clients in municipalities, municipal utility districts (MUDs) and the industrial sector. The Infrastructure Management Services group delivers financial, administrative and specialized support services to communities, associations, municipalities and special districts.
