Fluence to supply wastewater-to-energy system to steel producer in Belgium
Fluence Corporation Limited received a €3.9M contract for a wastewater treatment and waste-to-energy system for ArcelorMittal’s steel mill in Ghent, Belgium. Fluence will design and build the systems using anaerobic digestion technology to produce biogas from off-gas fermentation byproducts. The biogas produced will be used to power the steel mill’s operations, lowering overall operating costs. This will be Fluence’s first wastewater and waste-to-energy system designed specifically for use in the steel industry. The system is expected to be delivered, installed and operational on-site within 18 months.
“We are excited that after several years of research and engineering, we are now progressing with the largest project of its kind within the ArcelorMittal group," said Carl De Maré, vice president of technology strategy at ArcelorMittal. "This is the first application of a viable new business case where reuse of carbon is possible at large scale. We will achieve significant carbon reduction, and we hope that this will lead us to a lower carbon economy. This new Carbon Smart technology illustrates ArcelorMittal’s commitment to transforming steel production and it will also further strengthen steel’s standing in the circular economy, particularly compared to other higher carbon metals like aluminum."
Nidec appoints Hiroyuki Yoshimoto as new president and COO
Hiroyuki Yoshimoto has been appointed president and COO of Nidec. In the company’s 45-year history, he is the first person to hold the position after Shigenobu Nagamori, the company’s founder. Nagamori will remain with the company as chairman and CEO. Yoshimoto plans to further boost the growth of the company by focusing on post-merger integration. The appointment was approved on June 20 at the 45th regular general meeting of shareholders and a subsequent meeting of the board of directors.
KROHNE adds new courses to its online training platform for process industries
KROHNE Inc. adds new courses to KROHNE Academy online, including courses on entrained gas management, ultrasonic flowmeters and basic principle gases.
