ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The International Bottled Water Association (IBWA) provides information about all types of bottled waters, with membership including U.S. and international bottlers, suppliers and distributors.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The International Bottled Water Association (IBWA) announced that many media reports have incorrectly claimed that the bottled water industry is a contributor to California’s drought, according to a press release.

The amount of water used for bottling water in the U.S. is less than 0.02 percent of the total groundwater withdrawn each year, and while that figure may vary slightly by location, it is only a small fraction of overall water use in California, or any other state, stated the release.

Bottled water is comprehensively regulated by the FDA, and by federal law the FDA regulations governing the quality and safety of bottled water must meet the EPA standards for tap water, continued the release.

The release noted that the bottled water industry supports a strong public water system, which is vital for supplying citizens with clean drinking water.
