NSF International honors U.S. Rep. John Dingell for years of outstanding public service

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — NSF International, a global independent organization, writes standards, as well as tests and certifies products to minimize adverse health effects and protect the environment.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — NSF International honored retiring U.S. Rep. John Dingell for more than 58 years of outstanding public service in the advancement of environmental, public health and consumer protection at an awards ceremony located at NSF headquarters in Ann Arbor, according to a press release.

During his term as representative of Michigan’s 12th Congressional District, Dingell developed laws that protect consumers, natural resources and wildlife, helped to ensure clean drinking water and air, fostered clean energy and considerably improved food safety regulations, stated the release.

Additionally, Dingell authorized laws and amendments to key legislation that protects and improves clean air and water, including the 1990 amendments to the Clean Air Act that increased the authority and responsibility of the EPA, as well as the 1996 amendments to the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) that highlighted the use of sound science and risk-based standard setting, continued the release.

“Much of what NSF International has accomplished through our history has been influenced and guided by the laws sponsored or supported by John Dingell,” said NSF International President and Chief Executive Officer Kevan P. Lawlor. “Because of his unprecedented and unparalleled legislative record, I am pleased to honor Mr. Dingell for his outstanding public service.”
