FORT WASHINGTON, PA, Sept. 15, 2009 -- STX Offshore Shipbuilding of Korea, one of the world's largest shipbuilders, has purchased the first OMNIPURE Series 55 marine sanitation system from Severn Trend De Nora for use on a new drill ship. The OMNIPURE Series 55 system complies with MEPC.159(55) effluent standards and performance tests for sewage treatment plants across a variety of offshore and marine installations.

The model 5556 system has a treatment capacity of 56 m³/day (14,793 gal/day). Its personnel treatment capacity is 550 people for black water and 225 for black and gray water. The OMNIPURE system will be installed during the first quarter of 2010 on a ship being built by STX Offshore and Shipbuilding for Noble Drilling Holding LLC, a leading international offshore drilling contractor for the oil and gas industry.

Introduced in March 2009, the OMNIPURE Series 55 systems range in capacity up to 65 m³/day (17,000 gal/day) as individual units that can also be combined for increased capacity. The systems provide effective electrolytic treatment of both black and gray water through a patented and certified treatment process. Like other OMNIPURE products, the Series 55 systems produce a sodium hypochlorite disinfection solution from seawater in the presence of sewage to effectively treat all sewage.

Electrolytic treatment of marine sewage eliminates chemical storage issues, dosing equipment and costs associated with the use of hazardous chemicals since the disinfection solution is produced on site while the unit is in operation. The OMNIPURE Series 55 systems require minimal operator supervision and maintenance compared to other treatment technologies.

Frank Martin, director of operations for Severn Trent De Nora stated, "For more then 25 years, Severn Trent De Nora has served the water disinfection needs of the marine and offshore industries. The OMNIPURE Series 55 is the latest demonstration of our commitment to helping these industries comply with ever tightening regulations."
