March 18, 2010 -- Kemira's biodegradable scale inhibitors commercialized under the KemEguard™ brand are now yellow banded for use in the North Sea Norwegian sector. The strict environmental regulations for the North Sea have required companies to develop effective and benign chemistry for oilfield applications. Four of Kemira's unique scale inhibitors, KemEguard 2593, 5042, 5040 and 5021, have been registered for use in the North Sea Norwegian sector and given a yellow rating, indicating that the products are environmentally acceptable and have passed biodegradation, bioaccumulation and toxicity requirements.
Kemira supplies scale inhibitors to oil industry service companies in the North Sea area. One of the challenges in the oil production in the North Sea is scale formation that can plug pipelines and halt production. Kemira's KemEguard biodegradable scale inhibitors are highly effective for controlling barium sulfate, calcium sulfate and calcium carbonate scale, thru varied modes of action including dispersion, threshold inhibition and crystal growth retardation.
Kemira's Oil & Mining segment offers a large selection of groundbreaking chemical extraction and process solutions for the oil and mining industries, where water plays a central role. Oil and mining industries use intense amounts of water in their production and thus need to have more efficient and sustainable ways to use water. One of the issues caused by the water intensity is scaling. Kemira is committed to providing products that comply with the strict environmental requirements and helping its customers in minimizing their environmental impact.
