The Omniflo-SBR-system for biological treatment is designed to reduce Chemichal and Biochemical Oxygen Demand. Photo: Siemens AGThe heart of the wastewater system is an Omniflo SBR system (Sequencing Batch Reactor) for biological treatment to reduce Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) and Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD). Designed to treat 1,200 m³/d, the SBR uses the Siemens Vari-Cant jet aeration system.
The SBR system has a provision to include a nutrient removal process step to meet future stringent wastewater-discharge regulations in Malaysia. The modular system has been designed to increase future biological treatment capacity, if required. The "on-demand" design of the SBR system allows the jet aeration to be used only when needed for the particular batch of wastewater generated, thus significantly reducing operating costs. The system is designed to require very low
maintenance, as the life span of the jet aerator is often greater than 20 years and there are no electromechanical moving parts under water.
