Aug. 23, 2010 -- POWER-GEN Middle East 2010, the region's premier conference and exhibition for the power and water industries, will deliver a high quality conference programme, complete with around 80 leading industry speakers.

Demand for electricity and water continues to grow at a pace across the entire region and in the GCC in particular and many projects are proceeding despite the tough world economic climate.

To ensure stability in power and water supplies, Qatar continues to invest heavily in power and desalination capacity, as well as transmission and distribution facilities.

It is anticipated that Qatar will invest more than $20 billion in the coming decade in the field of power generation and water desalination, in addition to expanding transmission and distribution of electricity and the water network. It will also consider creating alternatives to power and water desalination plants fuelled by oil and gas and building other power plants using solar and nuclear energy.

All such options are being studied to meet increased future demand of power and water in Qatar and other countries in the region. These solutions and the issues surrounding them will be discussed and debated at POWER-GEN Middle East, which sees an excellent line up of high quality speakers during the 3 day conference, with 21 sessions and around 80 speakers and plenty of opportunity to network with colleagues and industry contacts.

The POWER-GEN Middle East conference speakers include:

• Yousuf Ahmed Janahi, Manager Corporate Planning & Business Development, Kahramaa, Qatar
• Frank Wouters, Chief Executive, Masdar Power, UAE
• Dr. Abdulmajeed Ali Al-Awadhi, Chief Executive, Bahrain Electricity & Water Authority, Bahrain
• Dr. Mohammed Dawood, Manager of Natural Resources Policy Dept, Abu Dhabi Environment Agency, UAE
