Infrastructure tech company acquires GE division

Through the deal, Aclara will gain GE Meters’ global headquarters in Somersworth, New Hampshire, in addition to facilities in Chicago and Bilbao, Spain.

ST. LOUIS — Dec. 21, 2015 — Aclara Technologies and GE Energy Management’s Grid Solutions subdivision (GE Meters) reached an agreement in which Aclara acquired the GE Meters business, according to a press release. Terms of the agreement were not specified.

Aclara supplies smart infrastructure technologies to electric, water and gas utilities around the world, noted the release. Through the deal, Aclara will gain GE Meters’ global headquarters in Somersworth, New Hampshire, in addition to facilities in Chicago and Bilbao, Spain. More than 300 employees are based in these and other locations in North and South America, Asia and the U.K.

Active patents and patent applications will also transfer to Aclara, stated the release. The GE division includes a range of residential, commercial and industrial meter technology.

"The acquisition of GE Meters has been completed smoothly and according to schedule," said Allan Connolly, CEO and President of Aclara, in the release. "We look forward to proceeding with the integration of operations and employees into a dynamic, expanded and highly synergistic organization that combines Aclara’s industry leading advanced metering infrastructure technology with GE Meters’ 130 years of operating experience, technology development and commercial expertise."

Aclara aims to provide superior performance and operational efficiencies with a portfolio of smart infrastructure solutions for electric utilities, reported the release. The solutions are designed to help utilities respond to issues quickly and prevent issues.
