International coalition calls for human right to water and sanitation

NEW YORK — A coalition of more than 620 nongovernment organizations (NGOs) from around the world is urging member states to revise the proposed political declaration from the UN’s post-2015 developing agenda, according to a news release from the International Water Association’s Water21.

The new Sustainable Development Goals and the development agenda are set to be adopted at a summit of world leaders this September (Sept. 25-27), stated the release.

The coalition includes Food and Water Watch, Global Water Institute, Earth Law Alliance, WaterAid, Right 2 Water, End Water Poverty and Blue Planet Project, reported the release.

The coalition stated that it wants to ensure the human right to water is prioritized in any strategy related to water resource management that the Sustainable Development Goals promote, noted the release.
