July 31, 2014

GENEVA — The International Organization for Standardization (ISO), an independent, non-governmental membership organization, develops and publishes voluntary international standards.

GENEVA — The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) published a new standard specifying principles, requirements and guidelines for measuring a water footprint, according to a press release.

ISO 14046 supplies all kinds of organizations with the means to measure their “water footprint,” or the potential environmental impact of water use and pollution, stated the release.

Based on a life-cycle assessment, the standard determines the extent of possible environmental impacts related to water and identifies ways of reducing those impacts, continued the release.

The standard also facilitates water effectiveness and optimization of water management at product, process and structural levels, as well as provides scientifically dependable information for reporting footprint results and tracking them over time, continued the release.
