ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates — The third edition International Water Summit (IWS) will once again convene in Abu Dhabi Jan. 19-22, 2015, at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, according to a press release.
IWS 2015 will address key global water industry challenges, such as diminishing water resources and growing populations, offering solutions to “unlock the water-energy nexus and ensure global water security” including innovative technologies enhancing resource management and efficiency as well as investment capital and policy reforms, stated the release.
The release reported that IWS 2015, hosted by Masdar in partnership with Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (ADWEA), will once again be a key component in Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week — the largest event of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) regions.
This year’s event will occur at a time when there is a need to increase the desalination capacity to more than five billion gallons a day to meet projected regional demand, and the current rate of water depletion throughout MENA may result in the region being categorized as an area with “physical water scarcity” by 2030, informed the release.
IWS will take place alongside the World Future Energy Summit and EcoWaste, offering a unique opportunity to explore the co-innovation taking place across the full sustainability value chain and capitalize on the extensive commercial opportunities available across the region, noted the release.
"The IWS offers a venue for addressing the complex question of shared water resources and [helps to] build the necessary cooperation among stakeholders and countries,” said Michel Jarraud, chair of UN Water, regular IWS participant. “The organization of the IWS in the broader framework of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week and [being] co-located with the World Future Energy Summit and the International Renewable Energy Conference is remarkable."
