VOLOS, Greece — The Lafarge cement plant in Volos has partnered with a local beverage company for wastewater reuse, according to an article by the International Cement Review.
The partnership allows Lafarge to reuse the beverage company's wastewater for cement production, the article reported.
The Volos plant has already connected to the beverage company's water network through a nearby pipeline, noted the article.
The beverage company's wastewater is used in Lafarge's conditioning tower before de-dusting of gases from the plant's cement kiln, the article continued.
“This solution provides our Volos plant with around 30,000m³ of water every year,” Lafarge said in a statement. "This allows us to reduce freshwater consumption at Volos and provides an environmentally-sound solution for the reuse of this waste water, which was previously discharged directly into the sea."
