LAN receives pipeline award from ACEC Texas

The American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) Texas awarded civil engineering firm Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam Inc. (LAN) a gold medal for its work on the Layne water pipeline and infrastructure project. Layne Christensen Co., a large water well drilling company, partnered with LAN to build a high-capacity water pipeline and infrastructure system to serve energy producers in the Delaware Basin, one of the most active oil fields in the U.S. The water infrastructure system, which is anchored by nearly 1,000 acres of company-owned, highly-productive water-producing land near Pecos, Texas, includes non-potable water wells, pump stations, 20 miles of pipeline, and in-ground storage reservoirs. LAN completed the design and managed the construction of the water infrastructure system in eight months, including less than 90 days to complete the 20 miles of pipeline. The project will provide a steady reliable supply of non-potable water to oil and gas companies and help reduce their reliance on potable water for fracing operations. Also, delivering water via pipelines will enable these companies to save millions of dollars in water management costs. Furthermore, the project will provide a safer and more sustainable alternative by taking trucks off the road.

WesTech’s CEO joins Microvi’s board of directors

WesTech Engineering Inc. CEO Rex Plaizier is joining the Microvi Biotech Inc. board of directors. Plaizier has more than 30 years of experience in the development and implementation of municipal and industrial water treatment solutions globally and has served as WesTech’s CEO since 2013. He has spent the majority of his career with WesTech, a Salt Lake City-based global company, with more than 500 employees, that designs and manufactures solutions for water treatment, liquids/solids separation and minerals beneficiation. WesTech recently signed an exclusive alliance agreement with Microvi to promote Microvi’s biocatalyst technologies in North America. Plaizier serves on several other corporate and advisory boards in addition to his role as chairman of the board of WesTech. He joins the board at a key time, with Microvi on the verge of rapid project expansion in Australia, the U.K. and across the US.

Water Planet sells MembranePRO business

Water Planet, which developed and now markets the world’s first smart membrane products, announced that it has sold its MembranePRO Services business to a group of private investors. Arian Edalat, Ph.D., who ran the MembranePRO business as the VP of engineering at Water Planet since 2011, has been named president and general manager of the new company, which continues to be operated under the MembranePRO Services name. Prior to joining Water Planet, Edalat ran water treatment service companies for nearly a decade.

"MembranePRO represented Water Planet’s legacy business of selling, operating and servicing water treatment systems," said Eric Hoek, Water Planet’s chief executive officer. "That business gave rise to our IntelliFlux automated control software, and it served as a great proving ground for our PolyCera membranes. Moreover, it became a strong and successful operation, completing more than $7 million worth of water treatment projects with $13 million booked for the next three years. This track record made it viable to spin out as a standalone business under new ownership, and I’m confident that Arian will be able to lead and grow the business to great success."
