WESTERVILLE, Ohio — The National Ground Water Association (NGWA) announced that the Miami Conservancy District (MCD) in Southwest Ohio received NGWA’s 2014 Special Recognition Award, according to a press release.

The Special Recognition Award is presented to an individual or organization demonstrating dedication, service and commitment to the groundwater industry and community through involvement and achievement on a local or regional level, stated the release.

MCD monitors, analyzes and reports on conditions of the region’s water resources in the Great Miami River Watershed, continued the release.

The release reported that MCD’s partner organizations — which include the U.S. Geological Survey, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the National Weather Service — operate and maintain an extensive hydrologic monitoring system that tracks annual trends in precipitation, runoff and groundwater levels, and changes to the balance of the hydrologic system of the watershed are assessed.

The award will be presented in December at the 2014 NGWA Groundwater Expo and Annual Meeting in Las Vegas, noted the release.
