MODESTO, Calif. — Part of Modesto's water treatment plant has received a Phase IV Presidents Award presented by the Partnership for Safe Water, a consortium of organizations headed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), for providing "the highest possible level of individual filter performance," according to an article by The Modesto Bee.

The plant is only the eighth in the U.S. to win the national award, noted the article.
Modesto Irrigation District, which owns and operates the plant that turns Tuolumne River water into drinking water for Modesto residents, reported submitting to "a rigorous, four-phase self-assessment and peer review process" for the award, the article reported.

According to the article, the Partnership for Safe Water award will be presented at the American Water Works Association's annual conference in Boston this June.
