Ambient Water signs an agreement with Frontier Hydrocarbons
Ambient Water signed a memorandum of understanding that allows Frontier Hydrocarbons Ltd. exclusive rights to sell and market Ambient Water’s atmospheric water generators in Peru.
Frontier Hydrocarbons Ltd. will establish an exclusive sale, distribution and marketing cycle in Peru for Ambient Water’s residential model of its atmospheric water generation technology, which can produce up to five gallons of drinkable water per day from the humidity that exists in the air. Frontier Hydrocarbon Ltd. will also sell Ambient Water’s commercial products, that can produce several hundred gallons of water per day.
Itron upgrades water metering system in Arkansas
Itron Inc. signed a contract with Rogers Water Utilities (RWU), which operates and maintains the public water and sewer systems in Rogers, Arkansas, to supply Itron’s Automated Meter Reading (AMR) system.
Located in far northwest Arkansas, RWU has a diverse service territory, including lake areas and hilly terrain that create hard-to-read areas. The utility has utilized AMR technology in a portion of their system for over 10 years, but it chose to take another look at available AMR solutions because it is planning on a complete meter change out over the next five years.
UV water disinfection is the key to successful beer brewing
UV-Guard supports Sydney-based brewers Malt Shovel with the management of its microbial-free beer production processes.
Two ultraviolet (UV) disinfection systems are installed at the brewery. One is designed to disinfect deaerated water prior to yeast addition and the other forming part of the bottle rinse water sanitation stage.
Many microorganisms pose a threat at different stages of the beer brewing process. The UV systems eliminate this risk by targeting spoilage microorganisms specific to each production stage. Process waters remain free from microbial contamination, ensuring the final product is of the highest quality.

New business development manager of JWC’s MSS
JWC Environmental named Jesus Rodriguez business development manager for the Monster Screening Systems (MSS) products. This new position supports JWC’s commitment to the company’s line-up of wastewater screening products.
Rodriguez has a mechanical engineering background and 20 years of experience in the water and wastewater industries. His knowledge of screening equipment and the municipal headworks market are expected to help bring MSS to a broader market. Prior to joining JWC Environmental, Rodriguez held positions with ITT Industries, Andritz, Parkson and Enviro-Care.
American Water announces new president
American Water named Deborah Dewey president of Indiana American Water and Michigan American Water. Dewey most recently served as the vice president of operations for Indiana American Water. As president, Dewey will work to strengthen customer, regulatory and local government relationships while driving operational and financial results.
Dewey started her career at Westinghouse Electric Corp., where she was involved in strategic planning and field technology services. She also served as manufacturing and product general manager at General Electric Corp.
FWQA elects 2016-2017 Board of Directors at annual convention
The Florida Water Quality Association (FWQA) announced the 2016-2017 board of directors nominated by the nominating committee. Election was held at the FWQA general business meeting during the annual FWQA convention on June 10, 2016, at the Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando.

i20 appoints new sales director
i2O appointed David Kenny as European sales director. Kenny has almost 20 years of experience in the U.K. water sector and specializes in smart water technologies. He was most recently responsible for sales and business development in the U.K. at TaKaDu.
In his new role, Kenny is responsible for expanding i2O’s smart water network technologies across Europe.

Matrix hires a trio of professionals
Matrix New World Engineering PC hired a trio of professionals to expand its Industrial Services Group that focuses on water and wastewater services, primarily for clients in the food and beverage industry.
Joining Matrix are Jeffrey Littell, Reggie Prime and John Burns, whose clients include Coca-Cola, PepsiCo, Frito Lay and many other top brands.

Littell joins Matrix as the national client manager. He will develop and grow business nationally as he helps shape and lead Matrix’s client market sectors and practice/service lines.
Prime joins Matrix as the national industrial wastewater treatment director. Prime has more than 25 years of leadership experience as director of environmental affairs with Coca-Cola. In that role, he oversaw the implementation activities of seven regional environmental affairs managers who managed compliance and conducted audit activities.

Burns joins Matrix as the national industrial water treatment director. Burns is a chemical engineer with experience in research and development, process design, product commercialization, project management, manufacturing operations, technical sales and marketing; all with global exposure.

LuminUltra CEO awarded 2016 Water’s Next Award
Pat Whalen, the president and CEO of LuminUltra, was awarded a 2016 Water’s Next Award for his business achievements. The Water’s Next awards recognize the accomplishments of individuals and companies driving innovation in the Canadian water industry.
Whalen has overseen the company’s evolution from a small startup to the 37-person firm it is today. The company provides real-time, on-site microbiological monitoring and control products and services. Its technology is designed to quantify total microbiological activity in water and wastewater processes, allowing operators to take real-time action to mitigate microbiological problems.
Students receive Goulds Water scholarships
Goulds Water Technology (GWT), a Xylem brand, awarded scholarships to 14 high school graduates through the Goulds Professional Dealer Association (GPDA). This year, GWT increased the scholarship amount to award an additional $500 per recipient. The students, who reside in the U.S. or Canada, will each receive a $1,500 GPDA scholarship for college or technical school.

Dow’s Camp de Tarragona chosen as one of Environmental Leader’s Projects of the Year 2016
A European Union-funded DEMOWARE initiative project in the water scarce region of Camp de Tarragona, Spain, was named one of Environmental Leader’s Projects of the Year 2016. The project uses advanced reverse osmosis membranes from Dow Water & Process Solutions, a business unit of The Dow Chemical Company.
The Camp de Tarragona petrochemical complex handles 19,000 cubic meters of water per hour and previously used freshwater from the UNESCO-protected Ebro River Basin to power its industrial processes.
Out of anout 30 projects funded by the European Union’s DEMOWARE initiative, a program to demonstrate innovations that help build a competitive and innovative European water reuse sector, this is the only project related to industrial water reuse. The project targets to serve 90 percent of the complex’s water demand with reclaimed water by 2019.
New winner for "Best of the Best" Tap Water Taste Test
The American Water Works Association announced the City of Bloomington, Minnesota has won the 12th annual "Best of the Best" Tap Water Taste Test. Composed of regional winners from water-tasting competitions across North America, the event was held at AWWA’s Annual Conference and Exposition (ACE16) in Chicago.
Second place went to the City of Iola, Kansas. Third place went to the Village of Canajoharie, New York. The People’s Choice award winner went to City Corporation of Russellville, Arkansas.
American Water named one of Newsweek’s Top Green Companies
American Water Works Company Inc. was named to Newsweek’s list of 500 of America’s Top Green Companies for 2016, making it the only water utility on the list.
American Water is a water utility company that serves 15 million people. The company says its sustainability practices are vital to its core business of providing clean, safe, reliable water and wastewater services. Its corporate responsibility program focuses on four key areas, including the environment.
West Valley Water District awarded biottta nitrate removal project
AdEdge Water Technologies was awarded and is implementing a biottta (biologically tailored two-stage treatment approach) nitrate, perchlorate and trichloroethylene removal project for the West Valley Water District of California.
The West Valley Water District serves several communities in Riverside County. Historic levels of perchlorate and trichloroethylene are not compliant with the California drinking water standards along with an increasing concern with rising nitrate in the water supply. BiotttaTM is a sustainable and environmentally friendly treatment process that uses naturally occurring bacteria to eliminate multiple contaminants from groundwater rather than creating harmful waste streams typically found in conventional treatment processes such as ion exchange and reverse osmosis applications.
New Jersey high school student wins 2016 U.S. Stockholm Junior Water Prize
Nishita Sinha from Chatham, New Jersey, won the 2016 U.S. Stockholm Junior Water Prize (SJWP), a youth competition for water-related research. Sinha and 53 other students, representing 47 states and Puerto Rico, competed in the national finals.
A simple, two-pit composting toilet that uses a natural anaerobic process to treat solid waste is a possible solution to the lack of reliable and affordable sanitation options around the world. Despite its efficacy, concerns remain about fecal coliform bacteria in the liquid waste and the impacts on local drinking water sources. Sinha’s two-phase project, "Experimental Studies in Developing Safe Sanitation Solutions," tested potential low-cost additives to improve this process and evaluated the associated design constraints.
Sinha received $10,000 and a trip to Stockholm, Sweden, where she will represent the U.S. at the international competition during World Water Week, August 28-September 2. The international winner will receive $15,000 presented during a royal ceremony by the prize’s Patron HRH Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden.

Bradley Corp. hosts 95th anniversary factory tour
As part of its 95th anniversary celebration, Bradley Corp. hosted a learning tour of its manufacturing plant with Wisconsin-area high school students enrolled in the new Design Engineering Manufacturing (DEM) Center.
The DEM Center, part of Hartland, Wisconsin-based Arrowhead Union High School, is a public-private partnership and educational jobs initiative, which exposes students to manufacturing and engineering processes. Bryan Mullett, Bradley’s incoming CEO, shared highlights of Bradley’s product history, while machinists and engineers demonstrated key equipment and technology housed in its Menomonee Falls-based manufacturing plant.
APANA announces new growth
APANA announced a new corporate website, the hiring of top-caliber sales and technical talent, the addition of new channel partners and growth into new vertical customer segments such as food and beverage, hotel and resort, carwash and education, as well as the horizontal cooling tower segment.
Based on the successful deployment of more than 130 of APANA systems in the United States and internationally that have saved customers tens of millions of gallons of water, the company is moving into a more accelerated period of growth. As part of that expansion, APANA recently added Kristie Lanum as operations director and expanded the sales team by bringing on two top performers Keith Bass and Eric Glerum who both work with leading energy management and sustainability company Ecova.
Xylem helps protect Idaho’s Boise River
Xylem Inc. secured a contract worth $1.9 million from the city of Caldwell, Idaho, to add an advanced wastewater filtration system to the city’s existing wastewater treatment facility. The inclusion of tertiary filtration technology will enhance the treatment of wastewater effluent discharged into the Boise River by removing suspended solids and ensuring that the facility can meet stricter regulations.
The Xylem-designed solution includes Leopold Type S underdrains with I.M.S 1000 media retainers, backwash water troughs and engineered filter media including sand and anthracite. The system will help remove total suspended solids and particulate associated phosphorus from the wastewater.
