Nebraska harnesses Colorado floodwaters, boosts groundwater levels

LINCOLN, Neb. — Nebraska DNR and six irrigation districts were able to divert floodwaters into irrigation canals.

LINCOLN, Neb. — The Nebraska Department of Natural Resources and six irrigation districts along the South Platte, North Platte and Platte rivers took advantage of Colorado floodwaters to boost groundwater levels, according to an article by WOWT 6 News.

Floodwaters from Colorado that flowed into Nebraska were successfully diverted into irrigation canals along the South Platte and Platte rivers to boost groundwater levels in the area and feed the Platte and Republican rivers, the article reported.

According to the article, the floods were caused by massive amounts of rain that fell in Colorado in September.
