Ovivo UK selects SC Innovation for testing water filtration components at nuclear plant

SC Innovation, the design and engineering arm of Devon-based SC Group, has completed structural tests on key water filtration components for Ovivo UK, which is supplying the cooling water intake screening system for Hinkley Point C. The tests, conducted January 2018 at SC Innovation’s Dunkeswell facility, assessed the structural strength of the proposed mesh panels to be used for the drum screen. This is a key part of the cooling water intake screening system, which will be used to cool both the electricity generating steam-cycle and the nuclear reactor services of the new nuclear power plant.

Ovivo was awarded the contract to supply Nuclear New Build / Électricité de France S.A. (EDF, Electricity of France) with the water inlet system for the Hinkley Point C nuclear power station, which will be one of the largest filtration systems in the world when installed. Ovivo is required to test the filtration mesh panel system to demonstrate that it can achieve the required performance parameters based on the various load conditions that the equipment will be expected to encounter during its working life.

Aries Clean Energy appoints renewable energy executive

Aries Clean Energy announced the addition of Renus Kelfkens as senior vice president of Engineering where he will direct all efforts in design, construction and operations. Aries is a privately held company focusing on renewable, distributed waste disposal and energy generation through its patented gasification systems. Kelfkens brings experience in the natural gas, gasification and renewables conversion to liquids industry to Aries. Kelfkens served as an executive member and SVP of Engineering at Sundrop Fuels to develop the company’s gasification technology using cellulosic biomass and organic waste feedstocks for the production of biofuels. He led the front-end engineering design and project execution planning efforts for the demonstration plant project and Sundrop Fuels’ planned first commercial bio-gasoline facility. Before joining Sundrop Fuels, he served as SVP of Engineering at Greatpoint Energy, a leading clean-coal company, where he spearheaded the development and commercialization of its innovative catalytic hydromethananation technology through pilot plant development program and demonstration scale-up design. Kelfkens has also held positions within the Sasol Group of Companies in South Africa and the U.S. He directed licensing operations for Sasol Technology’s new coal-to-liquids organization in Houston until 2007 and was engineering manager at Sasol Chemical North America’s seven-unit chemical complex at Lake Charles, Louisiana.

Kemco Systems hires Southwest regional sales manager

Kemco Systems, a global water and energy technology company, announced another key hire to its team with the addition of Stephen Stewart as the regional sales manager for the Southwest. Prior to joining Kemco, Stewart spent 18 years with US Filter. Beginning as a branch manager, he learned the technology and started engineering and selling water and wastewater systems, later becoming a regional sales manager for the Southwest region. Stewart will be based in Colorado, managing sales for the Southwest territory.

Since 1969, Kemco has delivered over 5,000 systems worldwide for industrial water reuse/recycle, wastewater treatment, hot water heating, wastewater heat recovery, flue gas heat recovery, vapor/steam curing and conditioning, and total system monitoring.
