Pennsylvania American Water holds social media contest for community project grants

Oct. 22, 2013

HERSHEY, Pa. — Voters will choose from projects meant to improve the environment and community between Nov. 8 and Dec. 8.

HERSHEY, Pa. — Pennsylvania American Water has launched a contest entitled "Community Investment Challenge" that allows Facebook voters to determine grant awards for environmental and community improvement projects, according to a press release.

Organizations entering the contest must submit projects that will take place in Pennsylvania American Water's service area in 2014, continued the release, and the top three projects will receive awards of $1000, $700 and $300.

Projects should fit into one of four categories: Water and the environment, water and healthy living, environmental education and community sustainability, the release noted.

"We hope to engage civic, non-profit, environmental and educational groups that are planning innovative and meaningful projects to enhance the communities we serve," said Pennsylvania American Water Director of Communications and External Affairs Terry M. Maenza. "By mobilizing voters through their social networks, the organizations could earn grant money to help those projects."

According to the release, voting will begin Nov. 8 and end Dec. 8.
