SCORe program receives IWA Global Grand Award

DENVER — The Sewer Corrosion and Odour Research (SCORe) program, jointly delivered by CH2M HILL along with the firm’s five research and eleven industry partners, is the largest, worldwide research project focused on sewer corrosion and odor.

DENVER — The Sewer Corrosion and Odour Research (SCORe) program received the Global Grand Award, part of the International Water Association’s (IWA) 2014 Project Innovation Awards (PIA), according to a press release.

The Global Grand Award acknowledges the beneficial tools and innovative technologies the research has uncovered to help water utilities across Australia manage odor and corrosion issues within sewer systems, stated the release.

The release reported that the project, led by the Advanced Water Management Centre at the University of Queensland and funded by the Australian Research Council (ARC) and CH2M HILL’s sixteen industry and research partners, was completed in 2013 in conjunction with an ongoing Water Environment Research Foundation (WERF) ventilation research program and remains the largest, worldwide research project focused on sewer corrosion and odor.

“CH2M HILL is pleased to be recognized as part of the larger SCORe research team for developing an effective strategy for the mitigation of corrosion and odor problems in wastewater collection systems,” said CH2M HILL Senior Fellow Technologist Jay Witherspoon. “This sustainable and cost-effective solution has changed the way Australian utilities and the global water industry manages sewer corrosion and odor issues.”
