Dec. 2, 2013 -- A new acquistion will help provide more efficient chlorine dioxide services to industrial treatment applications.

Ecolab, a company specializing in water, hygiene and energy technologies and services, completed its acquisition of AkzoNobel's Purate® business on Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013. Purate provides patented, proprietary chlorine dioxide chemistry for use in a wide array of water treatment applications and expands the range of water treatment solutions provided by Nalco, an Ecolab company.

"Chlorine dioxide is an effective antimicrobial agent and can be used as a biocide in many industrial water treatment applications," said Tim Mulhere, Ecolab executive vice president and president, Global Water and Process Services. "Purate's patented technology complements our current offerings, including 3D TRASAR™ technologies, which help address clean water needs within industrial manufacturing operations."

The Purate acquisition extends Nalco's current chlorine dioxide offerings and allows the company to meet the larger volumes of chlorine dioxide required for industrial cooling towers, pulp and paper, and drinking water applications as well as a variety of other biocide applications.

Ecolab, through its Nalco business, provides customers with effective biocide chemistries to address specific microbial needs and maximize operational efficiency.
