Schreiber’s Fuzzy Filter is a compressible media filter for water and wastewater treatment systems. Media compression permits adjustment of the filter pore size to meet process changes. The filter is very high rate, compact and modular, and is applicable to a wide variety of water and wastewater applications. Operating in an up flow design, the filter achieves a high rate of solids removal through the use of synthetic fiber spheres. With loading rates 30+ gpm/ft2, the filter requires 20% of the floor space of sand filters. Applications include tertiary wastewater treatment, influent river water, Pre-RO water cleansing, contaminated stormwater, membrane backwash water and cooling water side stream filtration.

Selenium removal
GE’s new ABMet system is a packed-bed biofilter used for selenium removal from water. The system offers a 50-75% reduction in footprint with a modular, skid-mounted equipment package, designed for rapid deployment and ease of installation. The packed-bed biofilter can be fed by a small pump skid, or by gravity. The system is seeded with a naturally occurring proprietary blend of selenium reducing bacterial, which colonize the granular activated carbon filter media. Selenium is removed in a single step, negating the need for additional post-filtration step to remove these sub-micron particles.

Gore has introduced a new generation of PTFE membranes in HDPE cartridge filters. The filters feature the company’s latest ePTFE (expanded polytetrafluoroethylene) membrane technology that provides improved combinations of retention and flow performance. All non-PTFE components use HDPE to ensure low organic and metal ion extractables. The HDPE family of cartridge filters will be available in three retention ratings – 0.1 µm, 30 nm and 20 nm. They can be used as drop-in replacements for existing filters to provide 400% improvement in flow capability over the best filter technology currently available at the same retention rating. The filters are ideal for high-turnover recirculation filter systems or as the final filter in high-throughput chemical filling and packaging systems.

The Koch’s newly designed and improved high flux Puron PSH modules feature an innovative central aeration and single header design that easily retrofits other MBR modules. The PSH1800 offers up to 25% increased capacity over previous Puron modules and offers 10% more surface area than competitive supported fiber products within the same product dimensions. The single header design offers minimal clogging and use of braided membrane fibers reduce fiber breaks.

Self-cleaning filters
Orival has re-designed four filters in its ORG line of filtration products. The new 1½”, 2”, 3” and 4” filters are now labeled as ORG/A filters and are designed specifically to conserve rinse water. The filters use up to 90% less water than conventional automatic self-cleaning screen filters. The automatic self-cleaning filters are available in sizes from 1½” to 10”. They are built to conserve water during the self-cleaning cycle while still handling flow rates up to 1760 gpm for a single unit. The filters are available with interchangeable screens from 5 to 3000 microns.

Self cleaning filters
Amiad automatic self cleaning filters deliver clean water with clean technology. The technology is used in wastewater treatment systems worldwide. For example, the company’s ABF automatic brush filters handle more than 200 mgd in Singapore’s NEWater system. Amiad EBS and SAF automatic screen filters protect thousands of cartridge, membrane and other fine filtration systems. Arkal Spin Klin disc filters are known for efficient filtration of deformable solids. And the company’s automatic microfiber (AMF) systems bring automatic self cleaning filtration down to the 2-micron level in water treatment systems – including many seeking discharge permits under California’s strict Title 22 standards.

The Sanitaire DrumFilter includes a specially engineered drive assembly with an integrated elastomeric end plate. The design distributes forces, thus eliminating the source of shaft problems that have been identified with earlier microscreen devices. The cloth media filters produce effluent quality capable of meeting stringent T22 water reuse requirements. Acid-resistant polyester fabric screens are encapsulated in modular panels for durability and easy replacement. Rubber plugs are available for instant repair of perforated panel grid squares.

The WWETCO FlexFilter™ from WesTech uses a synthetic compressible media to capture solids in a high rate filtration process. Rising influent applies hydrostatic force to the outside of tapered flexible bladders causing the media within the bladders to compress loosely at the top of the filter, with a tighter porosity gradient through the depth of the filter. This tapered compression provides for a filtration bed that is more open at the top of the filter, graduating to more densely packed synthetic media in the deeper portions of the filtration bed. The simple gravity system includes a unique backwash system involving an air scour coupled with a high energy wash cycle and specialized backwash troughs to minimize the volume of backwash water needed.

Orenco’s® new AdvanTex® AX-Max™ is a modular, fully-plumbed wastewater treatment plant capable of handling flows from 5000 gpd to 1 mgd. The systems feature a packed bed filter technology using textile media. The systems are built inside an insulated fiberglass tank that is durable, lightweight, and watertight. It can be installed above- or below-ground, singly or in multi-tank arrays. This modular design allows communities and developments to add capacity on demand, and can be preceded by any collection technology. Assuming domestic strength wastewater, effluent quality of ~5mg/L cBOD/TSS with 65% nitrogen reduction can be expected.
