ITT to treat nuclear plant wastewater in France

WHITE PLAINS, NY, Nov. 13, 2008 -- ITT Corporation, a leading provider of pumps and systems for the movement and treatment of water and wastewater, announced that it has won a $4.7 million contract to install ITT ultraviolet (UV) technology for treating nuclear plant wastewater in France.

The order involves doubling the existing ITT ultraviolet capacity at production unit #1 at the Civaux plant in central France as well as upgrading the UV installation itself. The contract was awarded by Electricité De France (EDF), which runs all of the country's 58 nuclear power plants at 19 sites.

"ITT's WEDECO® brand UV technology is vital for removing contaminants flowing directly into the Vienne River alongside the plant," says Jean Yves Perrot, Industrial Applications Manager at ITT Water & Wastewater in France. "Ultraviolet technology is especially effective during the summer when river flow is low and more susceptible to pollution from discharged waters."

A total of 576 low pressure, high output WEDECO lamps will be installed when the project gets underway next year. These amalgam lamps are among the most powerful currently manufactured. A new UV installation -- including the existing installation to be refurbished by ITT -- will together treat two cubic meters of water per second with a UV dosage that assures disinfection.
