Aquatech has been awarded a contract to provide its evaporator technology for the JACOS (Japan Canada Oil Sands Ltd.) Hangingstone Expansion Project in Alberta, Canada.
Aquatech’s Vertical Tube Falling Film (VTFF) evaporator technology will be used to treat and recover over 95% of the OTSG (Once-Through Steam Generator) blowdown to supply as boiler feedwater make-up for JACOS’ heavy oil production facility.
The Hangingstone Project, which is located approximately 50 km southwest of Ft. McMurray, Alberta, is a joint venture of JACOS and Nexen Energy ULC, a wholly owned subsidiary of CNOOC Limited. The bitumen production capacity during the initial stage will be approximately 20,000 barrels per day.
Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage technology (SAGD) is an enhanced oil recovery process used for producing heavy crude oil or bitumen.
Matt Sonnenberg, regional sales manager, Western Canada, said: “The Alberta Oil Sands is a very important market to Aquatech – one in which we have invested a great amount of attention and resources.”
Alan Daza, vice president of Upstream Oil & Gas, added, “This is another important win for Aquatech as we see a market potential for evaporation technology to meet the recycle/reuse objectives of Directive 081 for the Oil Sands in the province of Alberta.”
